5 Months Old

My sweet girl is 5 months old today!  The last 5 months have gone by so quickly.  Right now is a really fun time because she is becoming more interactive and really aware of things going on around her.

MacKenzie weighs about 15 lbs and is about 25 inches long.

She is wearing 3 month and 3 to 6 month clothes, although the 3 months are almost too short.  And she just moved up to size 2 diapers.
We just started veggies at dinner time and she is eating rice cereal 2 times a day.

MacKenzie usually takes at least 1 good nap during the day and a couple of short "cat naps".  At night, she sleeps a good 10 to 11 hours (usually from around 7 pm to anywhere between 5 and 6:30 am).

Within the past week or so, she has really started noticing the dogs and cat.  She squeals and smiles whenever they get close to her and likes to watch them around the house.  They are not too sure about her and sometimes she scares Peyton (the cat) when she squeals at him.

She rolled over once a daycare and didn't roll over again until this past weekend.  She is trying her best to sit up on her own, but isn't quite there yet...but only needs a little assistance or support.  Also, she puts everything she can get her hands on in her mouth...toys, her hands & fingers, our fingers...everything!

We had our first illness this month, too.  It wound up just being a nasty cold, but she was running a fever and had a bad runny nose & watery eyes.  So, we took her to the doctor and he put her on an antiobiotic.

Happy Monday!

Happy Monday everyone.  Just a couple of pics I took on my phone this morning while we were getting ready for the day.  So happy my sweet girl is feeling better & back to her normal, happy self (and back to sleeping all night!).

Saturday was a beautiful day, so we all went on a walk around the neighborhood.  Parker walked the dogs & I pushed MacKenzie in the stroller.  She loves riding in the stroller & took a little nap while we were out.  I think she looks like a total Diva in her sunglasses!

First Veggies

This weekend, we decided it was time for MacKenzie to have more than just formula & rice cereal to eat.  So, while I was out shopping, I picked up some baby food for her to try.  We started with Sweet Potatoes on Saturday night...she really seemed to like trying something new.
For right now, she is eating rice cereal in the mornings once she gets wherever she is for the day (day care or MiMi's) and for dinner she has Sweet Potatoes & rice cereal and usually a little formula to top off the meal.  She still takes bottles the rest of the day, including first thing in the morning and at night, before bed.
We will continue with Sweet Potatoes for a few more days (to make sure she doesn't have any allergies) and then we will try another new veggie...either Squash or Carrots.

Happy Birthday Uncle Gary

Last week, my uncle Gary celebrated his 60th birthday.  MiMi, MacKenzie and I went up to TN on Friday night.  On Saturday, we threw Gary a birthday party at Laura's house.

Mom planned the "Phases of Gary's Life".  For each phase, she had something to give him or for him to wear and music.  We had the blankie, cowboy, blue suede shoes, 70s & long hair, college at UT, dental school in Memphis, becoming a dentist and then becoming a Dad.  Here are a couple of pictures from that.

MacKenzie did pretty good with all the people and noise.  She did fuss some, but it was loud.  There were some people there who hadn't met her yet.  And here are a few more pictures from the party...

Wordless Wednesday...on Thursday...with a few words...

This was suppose to be a Wordless Wednesday post, but I forgot to hit the publish button yesterday.  MacKenzie started running a fever yesterday, with a runny nose & we could just tell she didn't feel good.  We took her to the doctor today and thankfully, she does not have the flu - Just a really bad cold.   3 of the 5 kids at daycare have tested positive for the flu, so I'm glad she doesn't have it.  Dr. Patz prescribed her some meds & hopefully she'll be feeling better in a couple of days.
Now on to the pictures of MacKenzie...these were taken Saturday night at Gary's Birthday party.

Sitting in the High-Chair

Since MacKenzie has started eating cereal regularly (2 times a day), we decided this weekend that it was time to get out the high chair.  On Saturday, Parker put it together and Saturday evening, we used it for the first time.

When I'm feeding her, she likes to grab the spoon & try to feed herself.

Sigma Kappa Legacy

One of my college friends & sorority sisters is very talented with embroidery & sewing. When she posted this adorable Sigma Kappa legacy onesie on Facebook, I just had to have her make one for MacKenzie. Stacy makes all kinds of personalized items & recently opend a shop on Etsy - if you're looking for throw pillows or adorable clothes for kids, be sure to check out her shop Gracie Bear Boutique

Exer-saucer Fun

One of MacKenzie's Christmas gifts from MiMi & Grumps was an exer-saucer.  She's still a little short for it but enjoys hanging out & playing in it.

Some Firsts

Over the past month or so, we have been experiencing a lot of  "firsts" for MacKenzie.  In addition to her first Christmas and first beach trip, she tried cereal for the first time (I have pictures of her trying it but now I can't find them).  She also started sitting in the Bumbo some.

Hi Smokey!
Yesterday, when I picked her up from daycare, Mrs. Pat told me that she rolled over!  She rolled from her stomach to her back.  That was a first...I knew she was getting close because she would roll to her sides but she hadn't rolled all the way over yet.  And of course, she wouldn't roll over for us to see last night either.
Hearing that she rolled over for the first time & missing it was sad for me.  I also have a feeling that this is just the beginning of milestones that I am going to miss because I am working.  Don't get me wrong, I like working and we love Mrs. Pat and couldn't ask for a better child care situation since I do work, but it's just hard missing out on things like this.

4 Month Check-Up

MacKenzie had her 4 month check-up on Friday.  She weighed 14.9 lbs and is 25 inches long, putting her in the 75th percentile for both.  Dr. Patz said she is a healthy, happy, good-looking baby!  (Just what we wanted to hear).  She had to get 2 shots and did great.  Here she is just a couple of minutes after getting her shots...
